My name is Bernadette Cosmano and I am a special education teacher at Hyatt Elementary. I teach students grades K-5.
My personal motto, "I can, and I will!" Every year I make a personal goal and try to achieve it. These goals help me to challenge myself to improve my health and well-being. I enjoy traveling, Cross Fit/Boot Camp work outs, and reading. I have traveled to Ireland, Spain, France, Mexico, and Alaska. I love sharing my travel experiences with my students. Another way I travel afar is by reading. I make time to read every night to unwind. I also like to spend time with my husband and family in San Diego.
I attended Azusa Pacific University for my Bachelor's degree in Human Development. I continued my education and credential at Azusa Pacific University earning my Master's degree in education and my credential in special education.
I began working in education in 1999 as an instructional aide in Temecula. I worked with students on the autism spectrum for four years. In addition, I supported parents in their home establishing routines for children with autism. In 2003, I started working in San Jacinto as an instructional aide for students with learning disabilities. While working as an aide, I began my undergraduate program to finish my degree. Finally my lifelong dream of teaching began in 2010.
Teaching brings me a lot of joy. Every day I strive to learn something new about my students. As a special education teacher I need to know my students, their academic and emotional needs. I build on students' strengths and encourage students to try their best. What may work for one student, may not work for another. I encourage students to collaborate with their peers, to share what they know and their experiences. I have a classroom where students feel safe and can learn from their mistakes. Also, learning should be fun, engaging, and meaningful. As their teacher and mentor, I hope to instill a passion for learning.
